About “Slaughter”
Spring, 1941
While Germany wages war overseas, in the small farming community of Wakarusa, Indiana, fifty-seven-year-old slaughterhouse owner Harold Jackson is on the verge of losing his business.
In a desperate attempt to save his farm and the slaughterhouse, he has mortgaged his property and used the money to place an illegal bet on the Triple Crown series of races and a horse named Slaughter. Overworked and overcome with anxiety over finances and guilt following the death of his son Ronald, Harold Jackson is slowly losing his sanity. He’s hearing a voice inside his mind, and as tension over the races builds, his insanity manifests in the form of a murderous talking pig named Homer. Though the pig exists solely in Harold’s imagination, he emerges as a separate entity.
Set in 1941 amongst the wealthy horse racing community in Lexington, Kentucky and in the struggling family farms of Indiana, Slaughter evokes a time and a place and tells a parallel tale of the madness that guilt induces and its possible outcomes. What if E. B. White had written Silence of the Lambs instead of Charlotte’s Web? Get a “taste” of what that might have been like in Marcus F Griffin’s Slaughter!

Here’s a little bit more about author Marcus F. Griffin:
Marcus F Griffin’s sixth birthday present was a coffin built by his father at his request. Young Marcus piled books and stuffed animals on top of it of every night so he’d be awakened if anything tried to crawl out of it while he was sleeping. The rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks to childhood encounters with unexplainable supernatural events, Marcus was driven to study the mysteries of a multitude of worlds, as a result of which, he has been a student and teacher of metaphysics, spirituality, and the paranormal for over twenty-nine years.
He is author of Advancing the Witches’ Craft: Aligning Your Magickal Spirit Through Meditation, Exploration, and Initiation of the Self (New Page Books, 2005), and WISP-Witches in Search of The Paranormal: Spooky Streets and Haunted Highways (forthcoming, Llewellyn Worldwide 2010), and Tribe- Tending the Fires of the Great Spirit Within (O-Books, 2010).
Marcus is an active member of the Horror Writers Association. He is also a regular contributor to Circle Magazine and the UK’s Paranormal Magazine and writes a monthly feature column for Ghostvillage.com.
Marcus lives with his wife in northern Indiana in a haunted home located on their sanctuary, which is known as Nevermore Gardens.
